Being physically active will help your school-age child do better in school, and improve their self-esteem, health, and happiness. The Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Children and Youth (ages 5-17) recommend that children five to 11 years old participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
For ideas on ways to be active with your kids check out the Health Unit’s Play Learn Grow Huron Pinterest page for a number of games that your kids will love. There are many ways to be active in Huron County indoors and out.
It is also important to keep your child’s screen time to less than two hours a day. Reducing the times when they are not active at all, like when watching TV or on a computer, improves development and the make-up of their body.
